The young kraken swirls his toys through the waves, lost in a grand adventure on the high seas. “The pirates are upon us, Captain!” “Arrr! Prepare the cannons—Fire when ready!” Pew, pew! “We’re going down, Captain! Ahhhh-glug glug glug!” The kraken’s completely forgotten why he didn’t want a bath to begin with.
Selene is forlorn. She wistfully daydreams of a life filled with laughter and adventure. She has the things, but that doesn’t feel important. Jasper watches from the cold outdoors oblivious to his own illicit behavior. The warmth looks fun and intoxicating. The rocking moose sees them both longing for what they don’t have. And all of that is about to change.

Lilith sits in solitude in the chill autumn morning, sipping on the warm nectar of life, watching the scene in front of her as if on time delay. The leaves explode from the trees like vibrant fireworks. Landing on the ground, the earth sucks the color right out of them. Wilted and decayed, they disappear as new life springs up. Lilith smiles—there’s even more beauty in the full story.
The last light slips through the trees. Today, the forest was quiet and rewarding, the journey successful. Even so, each step grew heavier on his return. It’s dinner time already—the kits must be concerned. Rounding the corner small faces appear, eyes wide, pressed to the window, being rocked by happy tails. He straightens. The weight of the worry drops away. Everything’s OK, now it’s time to eat and play.
Oren takes in a deep breath of the calm silence. Content with the view, relaxed yet vigilant. He will glow softly through the darkness. Ward away the things that go bump in the night. There won’t be any whimpering kits on his watch. No bad dreams for chipmunks. The forest can sleep. He may be small, but Oren is ready. The night is safe.
Long ago, the city asked him to guard its walls. Staring out at the dark forest—ready to defend against some unknown attack. The city has forgotten him. The forest did not. Patiently, the vines claim the city’s servant as their own—welcoming him into the protective darkness with a full embrace.
There are no lines to wait in. No rules to follow. The only schedule is sunrise and sunset. The only weight to carry fit in your pack. This is our happy place—and our enjoyment can’t be confined. An escape from the grayness of coloring within the lines. This is what’s real.
It had been a day of backpacking and spearfishing. After setting up camp and making dinner, we went down to the beach to relax as the sun was going down. We were greeted by a very unique spiney lobster sitting on a rock. “Welcome, subjects! Quickly – what have you brought in offering in exchange for my audience?” In my best old English I told him we were but weary travelers who have arrived nothing more than what we can carry on our backs. The Lobster King insisted, “I always graciously provide audience to my subjects, but none are permitted refuge on these shores without an offering. That is just unheard of!” One of our party ran back to camp and returned with the well-picked fish bones from our dinner and presented them to the king. He gave a great belly laugh. “Wonderful!” he said. “Jewelry for my queen! She will be quite pleased!” We returned to camp laughing. That was the cutest lobster we’d ever seen.

Time loves to dance. Music fills him with so much energy and emotion-he has to twirl and prance to get it out. Ballerinas are the most graceful, and he wants to be just like them. He even made his own tutu.
